“Facing the Wolf”
“Facing the Wolf” is my take on Little Red Riding Hood. Reimagined as all characters as ourselves and the journey we take within. I found these thoughts on the story’s possible symbolism, quite intriguing: “The wolf is the ego, the dark side of our natures-the shadow self who has untamed appetites and lurks in the dark. He tricks the innocent (unconscious) Red Riding Hood just as our own shadow natures can deceive us if we are not aware. The forest is where the path is; the path that must be taken to fulfill the quest. There is only one way to grandmother’s (wisdom’s) house. There are many distractions along the way and sometimes this allows our shadow to get the better of us. Our ego devours our wise self and lures the innocent one to be eaten as well. If not for the huntsman all would be lost. The huntsman is keen and alert always on the lookout for the pesky ego. He rescues both of them from the belly of the wolf. They are unharmed.” -excerpt by Susanna Barlow.
