“Emergence”
This artwork was recently in the “Post Barbie” women’s show at Brew’s this spring. For decades, I struggled with chronic neck and back issues that caused me constant pain and discomfort. However, over the past year, I have made remarkable progress in addressing and managing these issues. This progress has not only brought relief to my physical body but has also had a profound impact on my overall well-being.During this process, I have come to realize the importance of self-support and resilience. While having the support and care of loved ones is invaluable, I have discovered the empowering ability to be my own source of strength and encouragement. This newfound sense of self-support has been a transformative experience, allowing me to navigate challenges with greater confidence and independence.Last August, as I reflected on my complex journey, I had a vivid image come to mind. I visualized a naked figure crouching in darkness, with multiple elephants pulling to straighten their spine. This metaphorical image represented the struggle I had faced and the collective effort required to overcome it. The elephants symbolized the external forces and influences that had contributed to my pain, while the figure represented my own inner strength and determination to heal.Throughout my life, I have found solace and understanding through visual metaphors. These images serve as a means of processing and comprehending the world around me. When I engage in the intuitive process of conceiving creative ideas, it often leads to artworks that are deeply personal and cathartic to create. These pieces become a visual representation of my inner journey, capturing the emotions, experiences, and growth that I have undergone. While I have also created works through a more intellectual process, responding to prompts, deadlines, or commissions, it is the intuitive approach that allows me to express myself authentically. By tapping into my intuition and embracing the imagery that arises within me, I am able to create art that truly reflects my innermost thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
